Talk to Bert who can be found inside his house in Yanille, by the POH portal.

Bert will tell you of the skewered hand he found in the sandpit outside of his house and will ask you to investigate it for him. Agree to do so and Bert will give you the skewered hand.

The Wizards

Head over to the pub (The Dragon Inn) nearby and buy a cheap beer if you didn't bring one. Speak to the Guard Captain who will tell you he needs more beer. Give the Captain the beer and speak to him again and you'll present the hand to the captain who will promptly drop it in his beer. He will then suggest speaking to the Wizard by ringing the bell outside of the Guild, because it's their fault.

Go to the Wizards' Guild which is to the east and ring the bell. You will begin speaking to Zavistic Rarve who will recognise the hand as one of his students, Clarence. Return to Bert and ask about his job who will tell you that his employer is named Sandy and resides in Brimhaven and will also give you a copy of his rota. Make your way to Brimhaven and find Sandy's office, which is near the inn and has a sign labelled sand. Speak to Sandy regarding the recent murder of a wizard, and then search his desk to receive the original copy of the Bert's rota. Pickpocket Sandy to get a handful of sand. Now return back to Bert in Yanille and he'll vaguely remember someone messing around with his mind, most likely a wizard, and will give you a magic scroll.

Take this magic scroll back to the Guild and show it to Zavistic Rarve who will confirm the scroll as something to do with a mind altering spell. He will suggest going back to speak to Sandy, and will give you a magic orb and tell you to get some truth serum from Betty in Port Sarim. Speak to him once more and give him a vial for a teleport directly to Port Sarim.

Truth Serum

Head inside the magic shop and speak to Betty about a truth serum potion. Betty will give you some bottled water and tell you to place the redberries and whiteberries together in the water to create pink dye, and to then use the pink dye on the lantern lens to create a rose tinted lens. Betty will then instruct you to stand in the doorway and use the light reflected from the rose tinted lens onto the empty vial on the counter. To do this, stand in the doorway and use the lens with the vial.

Now speak to Betty once more and she will tell you that you need to place something personal into the serum, and to dilute it with tea or coffee. Return back to Sandy in his office in Brimhaven and speak with him to distract him, before spiking his coffee next to him with the serum. Activate the orb Zavistic gave you and then speak through all the options available. Sandy will reveal that he hired a wizard to alter Bert's mind, and then killed the wizard so he didn't have to pay him. The orb will record everything that will be said, and once ready will inform you to return it to Zavistic. Do so, and Zavisitic will now ask for five earth runes and a bucket of sand. Bring those to him and he will cast a spell which creates unlimited sand in Bert's sandpit, saving him from ever working again. Zavisitic will ask you one last favour; to check out the Entrana sandpit to find the remains of Clarence as he wishes to give him a burial.

Make your way to Entrana and speak to Mazion who is nearby the sandpit. He will tell you of a head he recently discovered and will hand it over to you. Take this back to Zavistic who will organise a burial.
