Capes of Distinction

Introduction

On the 3rd May 2011, a new set of capes was released to accompany the existing Capes of Accomplishment, or Skill Capes. These are known as the Capes of Distinction, and are awarded for multiple kinds of accomplishments, differentiating from only requiring certain skill levels.

Classic Cape

The Classic Cape is a reward to those who have logged in to Runescape Classic. You don't need to have accomplished anything in it, so this is the only requirement. It can be purchased from Iffie in Varrock. She can be found knitting in Thessalia's Fine Clothes shop. Players who are eligible for the cape can ask Iffie what she is knitting, and she will offer to sell them the cape for 50,000 coins.

Following the update to combat games of chance, the classic cape was set to only show a rune hatchet on doing the emote.

Veteran Cape

The Veteran Cape (5 year) is a reward to those whose Runescape account is at least 5 years old. Current progress towards the cape can be checked by talking to Hans in the Lumbridge Castle castle courtyard, and asking him what he does. Players who are eligible for the cape can ask him the same question and he will sell them a Veteran Cape for 50,000 coins and will have the achievement broadcasted to the server they are on, while the broadcast also shows for those who purchase the 10 year Veteran Cape for the first time.

The Veteran cape (10 year) is the second Veteran Cape available. It can be bought from Hans by players whose accounts are 10 years old. This cape is similar to the Veteran cape (5 year) but it instead features an X for 10 years of play and is also dark red in color. The cape can be bought from Hans in the exact same manner as the Veteran Cape (5 year), except that it costs 100,000 coins.

The 10-Year Veteran Cape

5 Year Emote: The player is elevated off the ground by a large 'V' which extends out of it. The 'V' represents the number 5 in Romal numeral form, as well as the first letter of 'Veteran'.

10 Year Emote: The player leaps into the air and is encased in a solid gold 'X'. The 'X' then cracks as the player smashes out of it and drops to the ground.

Milestone Capes

Milestone Capes do as their name suggests, and mark milestones of a player's skill levels. These capes can be made by the player themselves, and can be made when all skills have been trained to a multiple of 10. For example, a player would need at least level 10 in all skills to make a Milestone cape (10), at least level 20 for a Milestone cape (20) and so on. To make the capes, a Crafting level of at least the multiple of 10 you wish to make (for example, 70 Crafting for a Milestone cape (70)) is required, as well as the level of the cape divided by 10 in Balls of wool (so the (70) cape would require 7 Balls of wool). When a player has all of the correct skills and items, the capes can be made at a loom. If the correct Crafting level is present, but not all of the other skills, the cape can be made but not worn.

Max Cape

The Max Cape is a reward only available to the elite, requiring all skills to be level 99 or above. The cape can be purchased from Max in Varrock, a skilling fanatic, who barely even stops for a breath. He can be found performing various skilling tasks around eastern Varrock, and occasionally stops by in the city's east bank. After tracking him down, players eligible for the Max Cape can purchase one from him for 2,574,000 coins (the amount of skills in the game multiplied by 99,000).
