All Fired Up

About the Beacon Network

The Beacon Network is a minigame released on 26 August 2008. The goal is to light a series of beacons, created by King Roald to create a warning in an event of an emergency. In total, there are 14 beacons in the beacon network. To fully complete this minigame, players must have a Firemaking level of 92, along with several other requirements and completion of certain quests to be able to access all 14 beacons. The minimum level required in order to start using the beacon network as an alternative method for training the Firemaking skill is level 43, in order to access the first two beacons.

Introduction

King Roald is concerned about potential dangers from the Wilderness and Morytania, and he has organised for 14 beacons to be constructed along the borders of Misthalin and Asgarnia as an early warning system. The beacons need to be tested, and King Roald would appreciate a helping hand. The idea of this activity is to try to use your firemaking skills to keep as many of these beacons alight simultaneously as possible.

Requirements

The Beacon Network is only available to those who have completed the All Fired Up quest. Upon completing the quest, you will already have the requirements to light at least 2 of the beacons. The statistics for all of the beacons are as follows:

Preparing the beacons

Before loading the beacons with logs, it is recommended that you make certain repairs to some of the beacon network's applications, to save you the hassle of doing it when against the clock. The applications that need repairs are as follows:

Beacon Items required Level(s) required
Burthorpe 2 Iron bars
Hammer
56
East of Death Plateau 2 Planks
4 Nails
Hammer
42
East of the God Wars Dungeon 3 Jute fibres
Needle
60
North of the small temple
in the Wilderness
With Smithing - Hammer
2 Iron bars
With Construction - Hammer
2 Planks
4 Nails

OR

As you will need to keep several beacons alight at once, it is strongly recommended that you load all of the beacons you will be lighting beforehand. This is because the beacons will only stay alight for a fixed amount of time, and if you spend a lot of time loading beacons with logs, the beacons will most likely lose their flame before you can light them all. Higher quality logs will burn for longer, and the approximate times that each of them burn for are listed below:

Logs Approximate time spent burning
Regular
13 minutes
Oak
13.5 minutes
Willow
14.5 minutes
Maple
15.5 minutes
Yew
16.5 minutes
Magic
18 minutes

To load the beacons, 20 logs of the same kind are required. Due to this, multiple trips to a bank are required to fill all of them. A map of the beacon network can be found below.

The beacons can be filled with or without a Beast of Burden familiar, however the use of one is encouraged if the Summoning level is present to summon a War tortoise of Pack yak, which require 67 and 96 Summoning respectively. Using a War tortoise or a Pack yak will allow the player to carry enough logs to fill two beacons, whilst still providing space to carry various teleports. A method that can be used to fill the beacons with a familiar can be found below.

Note: This method uses multiple items that can be purchased from the Grand Exchange or another player for a sum of coins. Some of these items can be missed out, although it will slow down the process of filling the beacons.

Items

Required items: An amount of logs of the same type (depending on how many beacons you wish to fill, it takes 20 per beacon)

Recommended items: Lumber Yard Teleport, Amulet of glory, Ring of dueling, Combat bracelet, Goblin village sphere and runes for several Trollheim teleports

Filling the beacons

The following route is one of the fastest and most efficient ways to fill all of the beacons. Simply follow it from step one through to the final step and stop where necessary. This method also presumes that you have already made the aforementioned repairs to all beacons.

  1. Head to Varrock east bank, equip an Amulet of glory as well as a Ring of dueling and a Combat bracelet, and then withdraw a Lumber Yard Teleport, Goblin village sphere and runes for several Trollheim teleports. Fill your familiar with logs, and withdraw enough logs into your inventory to make the sum of yours and your familiar's equal 40.
  2. Run east from the bank until you reach the beacon next to the Temple of Paterdomus. Fill it with 20 logs.
  3. Run west until you reach the beacon at the Rag and Bone man, and then fill it with the rest of your logs.
  4. Teleport to Castle Wars using your Ring of dueling and refill both your and your familiar's supply of logs.
  5. Use the Lumber Yard Teleport to teleport to the Lumber yard, and cross over the wilderness wall north of it.
  6. Run west from the Lumber yard beacon until you come across another beacon, and then fill it with logs.
  7. Teleport to Castle Wars using your Ring of dueling and refill both your and your familiar's supply of logs.
  8. Teleport to Edgeville using your Amulet of glory and fill the beacon just north of the bank.
  9. Run east and fill the beacon north of the Grand Exchange.
  10. Teleport to Castle Wars using your Ring of dueling and refill both your and your familiar's supply of logs.
  11. Use your Combat bracelet to teleport to the Monastery. Head slightly southwest up onto the ascended ground, and run north towards to the Black knight's fortress. Fill the beacon there.
  12. Next, use your Games necklace to teleport to Burthorpe. Run to the northeastern corner of the town, climb up the ladder and fill the beacon there.
  13. Teleport to Castle Wars using your Ring of dueling and refill both your and your familiar's supply of logs.
  14. Teleport to Trollheim and climb up the eastern side of the mountain, and fill the beacon there.
  15. Climb down into the Wilderness and run south. Climb up the ladder there and fill the beacon.
  16. Teleport to Castle Wars using your Ring of dueling and refill both your and your familiar's supply of logs.
  17. Teleport to Trollheim and proceed to the beacon east of the God Wars Dungeon, and fill it.
  18. Descend down into the Wilderness using the nearby shortcut and run north past the small temple in the Wilderness. Climb up the ladder and fill the beacon.
  19. Teleport to Castle Wars for one last time and refill your inventory with 20 logs.
  20. Teleport to Trollheim, run north past the God Wars Dungeon entrance, climb down into the Wilderness and run north to the Frozen Waste Plateau. Fill the beacon there and get ready to light them all.

If you do not have an appropriate familiar to carry logs for you, simply use the method above, but only fill one beacon at a time.

Lighting the beacons

Lighting the beacons is a lot faster than filling them. The following route is one of the fastest possible to light all of the beacons.

  1. Head to Varrock east bank, equip an Amulet of glory as well as a Ring of dueling and a Combat bracelet, and then withdraw a Lumber Yard Teleport, Goblin village sphere and runes for several Trollheim teleports.
  2. Run east from the bank until you reach the beacon at the Paterdomus temple, and light it.
  3. Next, run west until you reach the beacon at the Rag and Bone man, and light it.
  4. Teleport to the Lumber yard using a Lumber Yard Teleport. Go north into the Wilderness and light the nearby beacon.
  5. Run west until you reach the next beacon, and light it.
  6. Run west again until you reach the next beacon, which is north of the Grand Exchange, and light it.
  7. Teleport to Edgeville with your Amulet of glory and light the beacon next to the Wilderness wall.
  8. Teleport to the Monastery with your Combat bracelet. Head up to the beacon near the Black Knights' Fortress and light it.
  9. Teleport to the Goblin village using your sphere. Climb up the ladder in the northeastern corner of the village and light the beacon.
  10. Teleport to Burthorpe with your Games necklace and go to the northeastern corner of the town. Climb up the ladder and light the beacon.
  11. Teleport to Trollheim and climb up the rocks to the east of the mountain. Light the beacon.
  12. Climb down into the Wilderness and run south until you reach the ladder leading to the next beacon. Climb up and light it.
  13. Teleport back to Trollheim and head to the beacon east of the God Wars Dungeon, and light it.
  14. Climb down into the Wilderness using the nearby shortcut and run north past the small temple until you reach the next ladder. Climb up it and light the beacon.
  15. Run north to the Frozen Waste Plateau and light the final beacon.
  16. Congratulations, you are now eligible to claim all of the rewards King Roald has to offer!

Rewards

As well as a fair amount of Firemaking experience, lighting the beacons will make you eligible for three rewards that King Roald has to offer.

For lighting 6 beacons simultaneously:

Ring of fire

This item provides a +2% experience boost for each set of logs you burn.

For lighting 10 beacons simultaneously:

Flame gloves

This item also provides a +2% experience boost for each set of logs you burn. When used in conjunction with a Ring of fire, a +5% experience boost will be oobtained, instead of the expected 4%.

For lighting all 14 beacons simultaneously:

Inferno adze

This item can be used as both a hatchet and a pickaxe. It provides the woodcutting force of a Dragon hatchet and the mining power of a Rune pickaxe. When woodcutting with it, it will incinerate one in three of logs that you cut, providing you with the firemaking experience for lighting them instead of the logs themselves.
