Revenants

Introduction

Revenants are ghostly versions of most of the creatures found within the God Wars Dungeon (excluding boss monsters). They were initially released in game on the 10th December 2007 to make the wilderness a lot more dangerous than what it was at that time. Revenants often illuded new players into thinking that they were much weaker than what they are, their combat level doesn't reflect their true strength.

As of a game update on the 1st February 2011, Revenants were completely removed from being freely able to patrol around the wilderness and placed in a permenant home of the Forinthry Dungeon, which resides in the level 22 wilderness and is a PvP Area, meaning that hunting Revenants will make you vulnerable to other players.

Overview

Revenants were designed to act like player killers and as such they will use a combat style which exploits your current weakness, this ofcourse will change dependant on what gear you are wearing. The revenants follow the combat triangle. A revenant is also designed to comabt a players prayer, for example, should you protect from magic, then a revenant will change it's attack to another style untill your prayer changes.

Location

The dungeon can be entered via two different entrances: One is at level 22 Wilderness, west of the south-western Wilderness Volcano steps. It is a safer way of getting to the Revenants. The other entrance is at level 31 Wilderness, west of the Wilderness Volcano's north-western steps. Be aware that this dungeon is in the Wilderness, meaning other players can, and most likely will, attack you. The entrance areas are single-way combat, but the farther you get in the dungeon it will switch to a multi-combat zone.

Set Up + Fight

Set Up

Whilst engaging in PvM against Revenants, most players opt for a melee based set up with a magical defence. Players also go for a low risk set up due to the constant threat of other players being able to kill you and as such, it isn't advised to take what you aren't prepared to lose.

  • Head: Any
  • Amulet: Glory (With charges to teleport out)
  • Cape: Any
  • Body: Royal
  • Legs: Royal
  • Gloves: Forinthry Brace
  • Ring: Wealth / Life
  • Off-hand: Enhanced Excalibur (for healing)
  • Main-hand: Abyssal Whip
  • Aura: Vampyrism
  • Pocket: Sign of Life

The overloads in the above picture can be substituted for a super set. When doing an inventory to hunt Reverants it is best to find out what works well for you, as what some people may find useful in an inventory, others may not. It is of paramount importance that you take some sort of potion to boost your stats as Revenants heal quite rapidly should you not be doing enough damage to them.

You could if you so wish take a bunyip for its healing properties or if you have level 88 Summoning then it is highly advised to replace one of your food slots with healing aura scrolls and summon a Unicorn.

Fight

Given the introduction of Legacy Mode into Runescape, many players may want to try fighting Revenants like this, however, this isn't advised as kills seem to take considerably longer. However, if you do decide to continue the fight with legacy mode then take a Dragon Dagger or some weapon you can switch to, in an out, in order to use its special attack.

Praying against Revenants is highly suggested, prayers such as piety and turmoil will speed up the fight considerably. You can, if you so wish, activate the protect item prayer to save an additional item in case you die.

For those who wish to use the Evolution Of Combat in order to kill Revenants (highly advised) then pictured below is an ideal ability bar set up.

When fighting higher level Revenants it's highly reccomended to stun and then use a powerfull threshold ability such as destroy or assault in order to end the fight quickly.

Unique Drops

Revenants, alongisde the Chaos Elemental, are the only creatures in game to drop Brawling gloves and ancient warrior equipment (Zuriel's, Morrigan's, Statius' and Vesta's.), for these two unique drops are why people still hunt Revenants.

Brawling Gloves

Brawling Gloves were released into the game during the 15th October 2008 update alongside PvP worlds. Brawling gloves give the player a 300% experience boost when skilling in the wilderness with the gloves equiped.

  • These gloves do not last forever and have limited charges, this varies for each skill.

Ancient Warrior Equipment

Ancient warrior equipment lasts for one hour whilst outside of battle, opposed to it's corrupt state which lasts for only 15 minutes whilst equiped. The non corrupted armour degrades for an hour of combat only, however, a charge is used when equiping it for the first time.

Corrupt Dragon Equipment

The corrupt dragon equipment is the best equipment that is available to any player in free to play, however, with this comes a cost after 30 minutes of being wielded, both weaponry and armour degrades to nothing, which, some may argue isn't worth the cost that you have to pay to obtain.

  • Unlike other dragon armour, these weapons have no special attack.
