- Killing the Queen Black Dragon
- Other Tips
The Queen Black Dragon is the one of the strongest bosses on RuneScape, she can only be found in her lair which is located near Rimmington. Completing the 'Song from the depths' quest is highly recommended as this will cause her to have a slight damage reduction. You can find more information on The Queen Black Dragon in the RuneZone NPC Database by clicking here.
The Queen Black Dragon's Attacks
The Queen Black Dragon has a number of attacks which it can unleash while attacking you. She has the ability to create Fire Walls, summon Tormented Souls and Grotworms, breath extremely hot flames, stop time (Though this is actually done by the Tormented Souls), and she has the ability to change her body to defend herself against attacks. As well as attacking with both melee and range.
The Queen Black Dragon can be found on the lowest floor of the Grotworm Cave inside her lair which is accessed by entering a portal. The portal requires you to have 60 summoning. The Grotworm Cave is located near Rimmington and Port Sarim.
The easiest way to get to the Queen Black Dragon would be to teleport to the Port Sarim lodestone and then walk north west in to the cave. Once you have entered the cave, you'll need to slide down the agility obstacle and then enter a portal (requires 60 summoning).
Killing the Queen Black Dragon

When you choose to kill the Queen Black Dragon, you should be prepared for a very tough fight.
We recommend the following levels as a minimum.
- 60 Summoning
- 80 Defence
- 80 Range
- 92 Prayer (Can be done with lower, but Soul Split is highly recommended)
- 85 Herblore (Needed for Super Antifires)
We also recommend the following equipment and inventory setup.
- Head: Pernix Cowl > Karils Coif/Armadyl Helmet > Ranger Helm > God Coif
- Amulet: Amulet of Range > Amulet of Fury > Amulet of Glory
- Cape: Any Skill Cape
- Body: Pernix Body > Karils/Armadyl Body > Royal Dragonhide Body
- Legs: Pernix Chaps > Karil's Skirt > Royal Dragonhide Chaps
- Gloves: Pernix Gloves > Armadyl Gloves > Royal Dragonhide Vambraces
- Boots: Pernix Boots > Armadyl Boots > Snakeskin Boots
- Shield: None (Two handed crossbow) - You will need an antifire shield if you do not have Super Antifire Potions.
- Weapon: Royal Crossbow > Crystal Bow
- Ammo: Royal Bolts (or none if using crystal bow)
In your inventory, you are going to want to have Sharks or Rocktails. You will also want one or two prayer potions (or super restores), one super antifire potion, and possibly a ranging potion to keep your DPS high. You may also want to bring a familiar such as a War Tortoise which will carry extra food for you to heal yourself. A teleport tablet is recommended for safety reasons but isn't needed as it's easy for you to get your items back on death.
Information + Abilities
Generally, the fight is quite demanding of the player. You will want to use Soul Split while fighting the Queen Black Dragon, you should keep it on constantly. Due to the Evolution of Combat giving people a lot of hitpoints when using armour, you can tank most of her attacks.
Here are the abilities which we recommend to use: Piercing Shot, Ricochet, Fragmentation Shot, Binding Shot, Dazing Shot, Snap Shot, Rapid Fire, Incendiary Shot, Deadshot, Regenerate, and Soul Split.
When you are fighting her, you should try and stay near the next Artifact which will be activated, they activate in this order:
The Fight - Phase 1
Phase 1 is very easy compared to what you will be going through. You should always focus your attacks on the Queen Black Dragon, you can tank the damage from the Tormented Souls and Flame Walls. Once she has died, you should activate the artefact (centre) before she spawns too many Grotworms.
The Fight - Phase 2
Phase 2 is slightly more difficult than Phase 1, but once again you should always focus your attacks on the Queen Black Dragon, you can tank the damage from the Grotworms, Tormented Souls and Flame Walls. Once she has died, you should activate the next artifact (left) before she spawns too many Grotworms.
The Fight - Phase 3
Phase 3 is when it starts to get difficult. Still, you should focus all of your attacks again you should always focus your attacks on the Queen Black Dragon, you can tank the damage from the Grotworms, Tormented Souls and Flame Walls. Once she has died, you should activate the next artefact (right) before she spawns too many Grotworms.
The Fight - Phase 4
Phase 4 is very hard. You will need to keep your HP above 5,000 at all times to prevent a quick death. Despite the high risks, you should focus all of your attacks again you should always focus your attacks on the Queen Black Dragon while keeping an eye on the chat box. Although you can tank the damage from the Grotworms, Tormented Souls and Flame Walls, the Queen Black Dragon will start using some new attacks. The new attacks are 'Extremely Hot Flames' and 'Time Stop'. You can avoid the extremely hot flames by running to the side of the platform but you will still be hit with constant 450's. Timestop is an attack triggered by the Tormented Souls, they will stand in a corner of the platform and start chanting. When this happens, you will have 10 seconds to kill the Soul, once you have done that you can hit the Queen again. Once she has died you should activate the final artefact.
If you happen to die whilst fighting the Queen Black Dragon, a grave will spawn near the cave (in the trees) or near the QBD portal, it's easy to get your items back upon death by using the Port Sarim lodestone.
The drops from the Queen Black Dragon are quite good. Every kill, you should expect to make a minimum of 250k with the chance of making much more (if you get part of a Royal Crossbow, A Dragon Kiteshield, Dragonic Visage or an Elite Clue). The Queen can also drop a Queen black dragon scale which is used to unlock the Queen Black Dragonling pet.
