Divination

Introduction

Divination is one of the six resource gathering skills and also the first skill to be released since the dawn of the Sixth Age. Guthix protected Gielinor with a magical shield throughout the Fourth and Fifth Ages, but with his death, the shield collapsed. The energies of this shield have now escaped into Gielinor, infusing the world with new power.

A number of rifts, similiar to that at center of Lumbridge, have started to appear throughout the world, although these are much smaller. Each of these reach straight to the spirit of Gielinor itself, and only by harvesting and returning the memories to the rift can one begin to fully understand this new and mysterious skill.

Basics

Throughout Gielinor, a number of energy rifts have opened up, around which Wisps can be found. By catching these wisps, they will turn into springs, from which you can harvest two resources - Energy (which stacks) and Memories.

When you have gained some memories, you can convert them at a nearby energy rift. You have 3 choices:

  1. Convert memories to energy
  2. Convert memories to Divination experience
  3. Convert both memories and energy to Divination experience
Energy on the other hand can be woven into various items, such as Portents, Signs, and Boons, as well as being used to Transmute items.

As you level up, you can catch more complex forms of wisps, which can be found in various locations around Gielinor. For more information, see Wisps.

Wisps

There are 12 tiers of Wisps from which memories and energy can be harvested. Every tier has a different level requirement. All wisps have their own separate location and only memories and energy of the same type can be harvested from these Wisps.

Approximatly every 20 minutes an Enriched spring will spawn on every world at every colony. These springs give double XP when harvested from and will only give the player Enriched memories. The player will also obtain more energy when harvesting from these compared to harvesting from regular springs. They can be recognized because they are quite larger than regular springs. In addition, if a player has a regular memory in their inventory when siphoning an enriched pool, it will prolong the enriched spring's duration, making it last longer.

Enriched memories provide double the XP when harvested from a spring or converted at the crater. When converting memories to energy the player will also get a higher amount of energy from these. Aside from being obtained from the Enriched spring the player can also randomly obtain these when harvesting from regular springs.

Portents

Portents are single-use craftable items created from energy and a secondary item. They are held in your inventory and activate under certain conditions, providing an effect such as healing or item protection.

There are 2 types of portents: Normal, and attuned. The normal ones can be traded with other players, but are weaker than the attuned ones, which cannot be traded. They both require the same resources to create, but the attuned require a slightly higher level.

Signs

Signs are craftable items created from energy and a secondary item. They are equipped in the pocket slot of your Worn Equipment interface and come in five types: respite, porter, item protection, life, and death.

Crafting a sign will give you an inactive version. To activate a sign you simply equip it in your pocket slot. Once activated, the sign cannot be deactivated, and you may only have one activated sign in your inventory at a time. You can however have multiple inactive signs in your inventory ready to activate.

Boons

As you advance in the Divination skill, you will unlock new tiers of area which includes new types of wisps, energy and memories. As well as this, you also unlock the ability to create a new tier of Boon. Boons are type of permanent boost that grant a 10% experience boost to the corresponding area they are assigned to. The Boons can be created with a specific amount of energy you collected from your previous area or the energy from the area you are creating the Boon for. It's highly recommended you use the previous tier of energy as the higher tier energy can be used to create greater items. You will gain a small amount of experience for creating the Boon.

Note: The first area in Draynor (level 1-9) does not apply to this and you will not be able to create a Boon as it doesn't exist.

Chronicle Fragments

Chronicle fragments are orbs that appear randomly every now and then. These move quickly and in order to catch you need to click them as fast as you can, since many people hunt these down. Chronicle fragments can only be caught by one player and when caught, grants Hunter XP equal to 10 times your Hunter level.

When you have gathered 10 Chronicle fragments you may redeem these for Divination XP. You can do so by talking to May in Southern Draynor by the Divination camp, or offer the Chronicle fragments at the Guthix shrine found at the end of the quest The World Wakes' dungeon. It is highly recommended to offer the fragments at the Guthix shrine if you have access to it since you gain 50% more XP by redeeming it there than compared to redeeming it with May.

You can quickly reach May in Draynor by using an Amulet of glory, Faction Token or Lumbridge Lodestone. The Guthix shrine is easily reachable via the Ardougne Lodestone, Ardougne cloak and the Sixth-Age circuit, which is only obtainable once you have completed The World Wakes quest.

Skill Mastery

Once you have reached level 99 in Divination you can head on over to the researchers camp just south-east of Draynor or west of the Battle of Lumbridge crater where you can then purchase the Divination Skillcape and hood from Orla Fairweather for 99,000 coins. Once you have bought the Divination Skillcape you will then be able to right click it in the armour interface and boost your Divination level to 100. Owning the cape also allows you to perform the skillcape emote which can be done fom the emotes tab. Both the cape and hood are members items however free players can still perform the emote as long as they are wearing the skillcape.

If Divination is your first skill to reach level 99 then you will be rewarded the Divination cape. However if you have one or more skills already at level 99 then you will be awarded the Divination cape (t). If you have the untrimmed version of the cape and achieve level 99 in other skill, the cape will become trimmed automatically. The only way to keep a copy of the untrimmed cape is to use a keepsake box from Solomons General Store.
