Sophanem, also known as the City of the Dead, is a large, walled city found in the far south of the Kharidian Desert. The city's inhabitants all have been hit with some of the plagues that closely resemble the Plagues of Egypt. It is also home to the Sphinx and is most notable for the location of Pyramid Plunder. To gain access to Sophanem, you must have completed Icthlarin's Little Helper.

Getting There

There aren't many ways to access Sophanem considering it's an out of the way location.

  • From the Shantay Pass you can take the carpet ride to Pollnivneach, run south to the other magic carpet and take that to Sophanem.
  • You can use the lodestone network to teleport to the Bandit Camp and run to Sophanem (after completion of Desert Treasure).
  • You can also use a Teleport to House tab while your house is in Pollnivneach, then run to the magic carpet south of Pollnivneach and take that to Sophanem.
  • Finally, you can use a Pharoah's sceptre to teleport directly to Pyramid Plunder by selecting the option 'Jalsavrah'.

Icthlarin's Pyramid

Icthlarin's Pyramid is the first key area that will be seen upon your first entry to Sophanem due to it being the main area that you will stay in during the quest Icthlarin's Little Helper, the quest required to enter Sophanem.

Pyramid Plunder

Pyramid Plunder is a minigame that gives one of the fastest training methods for Thieving from mid to high levels. It is a dangerous area and you can die within this Pyramid. This is also where you will arrive if you used a Pharoah's sceptre to teleport to Sophanem. (Jalsavrah)

Blades by Urbi

Blades by Urbi sells a variety of daggers from bronze up to dragon and is one of only three shops that can sell the Dragon dagger.

Raetul and Co's Cloth Store

Raetul and Co's Cloth Store sells a large amount of thread as well as selling desert robes, one of the few stores that sells them. This store also has a small amount of silk for sale but most importantly it is the only store that sells linen, which is an item used in the quest Icthlarin's Little Helper.

Jamila's Craft Stall

Jamila's Craft Stall sells most moulds that you can add to your toolbelt as well as a large amount of thread.

Nathifa's Bake Stall

Nathifa's Bake Stall is a nice place to go to if you have taken a lot of damage from the desert heat or if you are looking to buy some waterskins for the journey back out into the desert.

Points of Interest

The musician is located right next to the north entrance in to Sophanem and is handy if you have ran through the desert and need to recover energy quickly.

Only available after completing Contact! You can access the bank underneath the building with the broken altar. This is extremely useful especially if you intend on training Thieving via Pyramid Plunder.

An altar that can be used for restoring your prayer points, helpful if you are using prayer in quests or while playing Pyramid Plunder.

This summoning obelisk is located outside of the city walls, sitting right against the east wall and can be used to restore your Summoning points. Once again, another helpful area if you happen to be using familars during quests in the area or while playing Pyramid Plunder.

Redstone Mine

After completing the Elite Desert task set, you unlock access to mine the red sandstone mine here, which yields 25 red sandstone per day. Redstone is used in the creation of empty flasks.

Once you are 90 Divination you can begin training at the Luminous location. This is located south of Sophanem; Waterskins, the Tome of frost or an Enchanted water tiara is highly recommended to stay there for long amounts of time without dying to the desert heat.
