Mort'ton is a small village in Morytania, it can be found in the southern area just south of Mort Myre Swamp. It used to be a bustling town which gained great riches by specialising in burying and cremating wealthy people. However nothing can live long in the cursed lands of Morytania without getting corrupted by it. In the case of Mort'ton it was an evil wind originating from the Sanguinesti region. Slowly the villagers became ill and became mindless zombies, at the same time the spirits of the long dead returned to haunt the village. Nowadays the village is mostly in ruins, the villagers still wander around mindless. However during the quest Shades of Mort'ton the player discovers there might be a cure against the evil affliction that haunts the village.
- The easiest way to reach Mort'ton is unlocked by completing the quest Branches of Darkmeyer, during this quest the player will receive Drakan's Medaillon. This will allow the player to teleport directly to either Burgh de Rott or the Barrows. From Burgh de Rott the player can jump over the fence and run north to reach Mort'ton, or from Barrows the player can run west to reach Mort'ton.
- Another way to reach Mort'ton is unlocked after the quest In Search of the Myreque, the player will be able to use a shortcut by entering the basement of the Hairy Dog Inn in Canifis. This will take the player to the Hollows, from here they can run south and cross a log, here they will find a small boat. Once they take this they will find themselves in Mort'ton.
- The last way is also the longest way, this will require the player to walk through Mort Myre Swamp and then over the winding path. This route has no requirements, however dangerous ghasts will be encountered along the way. This route can be shortened by a bit if the player has made progress in the Temple Trekking/Burgh de Rott Ramble activities.
Places of Interest
If the player has cured Razmire they will be able to access his store to buy various items used in the Shades of Mort'ton Activity. He has 2 seperate stores, the general store, which sells various items you would find in any general store as well as Olive oil and Flamtaer hammers. His second store is the builder's store, here the player can buy various items used to build the temple in the north-east of the village.
In the north-eastern part of the village the player will find a small island with the ruins of a temple on it. This is known as the Flamtaer temple, when Mort'ton was still a bustling town this temple was held in high regards as a sacred place with a powerful aura covering it. However new people moved in and the temple was used less and less due to it being of pagan origin, now the temple is nothing more than a ruin. During the Shades of Mort'ton Activity the player will be able to rebuild the temple and use it's sacred flame to sanctify olive oil and create Serum 208.
In the north-western part of the village the player will be able to find large wooden doors, these grant the player access to the shade crypts. To be able to enter the crypts the player will need any type of shade key, which can be obtained from cremating shades. Inside the crypts the player will find various types of shades, chests and doors. Each of these chests and doors has it's own colour or type of metal, which corresponds with the various types of keys the player can obtain from cremating shades.
These funeral pyres date back to the days when Mort'ton was still a successful village, here the player can cremate shades using pyre logs and the shade remains. Doing this will reward the player with prayer and firemaking experience, as well as various other rewards. The player will also be able to gain shade keys from this which they can use to gain access to the above mentioned shade crypts and obtain more rewards from there.
Despite being a rather desolated and abandoned town, Mort'ton has quite a few activities to offer. Some of these require the quest Shades of Mort'ton.
Shades of Mort'ton
During the Shades of Mort'ton quest the player will learn a cure against the afflicition which affects the villagers in Mort'ton, they will also learn how to deal with the shades which roam the area and the crypts. After the quest they will be able to create Serum 207 and Serum 208, this can be used to temporarily cure the villagers of Mort'ton. However the player can use Serum 208 on Razmire Keelgan or Ulsquire Shauncy to permanently cure them. If they use either of the serums on regular villagers, it will temporarily cure them and they will reward the player. The player will also learn how to cremate shade corpses with special pyre logs. For more information visit the Shades of Mort'ton Activity guide.
Just east of the village the player is able to find several large burial mounds known as the Barrows. Here the player will be able to fight the 6 Barrows brother (7 after completion of Ritual of the Mahjarrat) by defeating these brothers the player will have a chance of obtaining the valuable Barrows armour. For more information visit the Barrows Guide.
Temple Trekking/Burgh de Rott Ramble
The village of Mort'ton can be encountered in one of the events in Temple Trekking or Burgh de Rott Ramble. In this event the player will have to save the villagers from a shade attack, if they do this fast enough the villagers will help the player by either healing them, boosting their stats or restoring their prayer.
